ENJOY & RELAX

The generous and shady veranda of this house is unquestionably the best place to relax, looking east out over the garden and white rooftops of neighbouring houses. Early birds will especially enjoy this setting listening to the birds chirping and watching the sky brighten over the hill inviting sunbeams that are not yet too hot. Nearing dusk the treefrogs hidden in the foliage whistle their tune, sometimes heralding the moonrise in the footprints of the sun.

The heart of Fiddler's Green is a small original cottage dating back to the 1800s, that has since been added onto and modernized. The Bermuda slate roof shows evidence of the quirky evolution of the house with 3 chimneys; an old one leads to a working fireplace in the living room, another leads nowhere, and another working one was added ten years ago in the dining room extension. Interestingly, this house boasts extraordinarily high ceilings which are not common in Bermuda.  Ceiling fans alone generally provide a comfortable indoor temperature so that doors and windows can be left open letting the breeze and sounds of windchimes pass through (note: there are also A/C units throughout).

It is suggested the name "Fiddler's Green" is a happy place of old Irish legend where sailors retreat after their duty at sea. An afterlife of sorts, neither heaven nor hell, this place is surrounded by gardens and filled with rum and women: a place of love and beauty. To get there, “a sailor can find the paradisaical village by walking inland with an oar over his shoulder until he finds a place where people ask him what he’s carrying." (Source: Wikipedia)
